	February 2025, De Groene Afslag issued a call to the creative minds of the country:
Design a hotel room concept that either puts nature at the center or proves that waste does not exist!

De Groene Afslag is a circular meeting place with refreshingly unconventional meeting rooms and a café/restaurant.
lLocated in a former military building, it has become a hub for creativity. Many artists have exhibited their work here or contributed to the interior design.

degroeneafslag.nl

Like many creatives, Lara works best under pressure. And, like many under pressure, she finds herself procrastinating, which in her case led to a sudden urge to clean, or as they say in dutch: Opruimwoede. During one of these cleaning frenzies, she found herself in the storage room of her shared studio space, where she discovered a forgotten archive of old office equipment: outdated monitors, tangled computer mice, keyboards, oversized staplers, and an overwhelming number of cables, most of which had long lost their purpose. That’s when the idea sparked. Everyone has that drawer, that box in the attic, filled with mystery cords we keep just in case.&#38;nbsp;Thank you, cleaning frenzy.

Lara’s concept revolves around repurposing forgotten office supplies and obsolete electronics, objects she sees as the new antiques.

In her design, she uses old cables, wires, and cords as the primary material. Through weaving techniques, she creates furniture and wall panels that are not only sustainable and circular but also form a bridge between nature and technology.

In a world where we’re constantly online, Lara wanted to create an experience where technological hardware becomes tactile, familiar, and surprisingly cozy. The very objects designed to transport us to digital worlds, often associated with work, urgency, and distraction, are now reimagined as tools to ground us in the physical present.

The forgotten cables tucked away in drawers hold a quiet beauty, if you look hard enough. By dissecting and reinterpreting them, Lara gives "the new antiques" new meaning.

She invites guests to take a step back, slow down, and rediscover the beauty in the overlooked.

So, Unplug &#38;amp; Rewire.

		<description>Cuts in lifeIn the series Cuts in Life, Lara reflects on personal life stories. These are not easy stories.

Often they involve pivotal moments that drastically changed someone’s life. Such heavy experiences are transformative, you adapt, and they leave a deep impact. Yet, many don’t fully realize what these changes truly mean.

This lack of understanding is often reinforced by the taboos that still surround certain topics, like mental illness and depression.

The use of relief-linocutting in this series is a deliberate choice of material. Once a part of the material is cut away, it cannot be restored, you must continue working with what remains. It either fits, or it doesn’t.

The pictures tell the stories in black and white, which creates not only high contrast on paper but also how the story is told now and before. Which is often not so simple and with a whole lots of shades of grey.

WillemLinoleum on paper (21x29,7cm)This series portrays the life of my favorite uncle in five episodes. A unique and artistic individual. He also grappled with mental health issues. His presence during my childhood profoundly impacted our family, bringing both positive and negative influences. By using the linoleum cut technique, high contrast was created in the prints. Symbolizing the complex interplay betweenhumanity and the inner struggleshe faced.

“ I’ve known her for ten years now, and over time, I’ve come to understand her more and more as a person, as well as the story behind her situation at home. When she was still a child, her father had a stroke. Although he survived, it took a heavy toll on him. He was no longer the same man, and with that, the family dynamic changed as well. She had to grow up faster and take on more responsibility.
This profound change was not only difficult for her father, who was no longer able to do the things he once did, but also for the people around him. In this series, I want to tell the story of my friend and her father.

A story of a complex and emotionally charged father-daughter relationship.
A story where she is the strong, young woman who often goes unnoticed.

And the story of the love for the garden. A passion her father always had, but one that, over the years, he has been able to share less and less, both physically and mentally.

It’s a symbol of both letting go and the unconditional, devoted love that remains, even as circumstances change.

With this series, I want to visualize her story and the emotions she shares with me. It’s about the strength of love and care, the challenge of loss, and the invisible strength of the people who have to live through such changes.”&#38;nbsp;

	Mijn handen zijn niet hetzelfdeMy hands are not the same2024 - Acrylycs on canvas (100x100cm)

	Painting inspired by the short story of a dear friend.. A personal, profound, and vulnerable short story about the unrecognizability and loneliness one experiences when struggling with mental health. The contrast between deep loneliness and rich colors represents the dichotomy found in such a situation. That besides the darkness there can be survival, strength, joy, appreciation, curiosity and seeing beauty within it all.This short story was given the poetic title of “Mijn handen zijn niet hetzelfde” . Letting deep feelings of unrecognizability surface.
Should my hands resemble each other? Are my hands so different from others? Are my hands different from each other? Should they resemble each other? What kind of grip do these hands possess? Alongside these questions, there's always the perspective of being able to observe and study this body part. Raising other questions of ownershp.

	Layered Mountains
The commission: Mountains.

2024 - Acrylycs on canvas (120x80cm)

	Though the theme of mountains isn’t depicted literally, it is deeply present in the layers of the painting, layers Lara experienced throughout the creative process. Like a mountain shaped over time by natural forces, this work was built slowly, layer by layer. Each brushstroke reflects the climb, the view, and the constant reminder that progress is never effortless.

Lara’s art often centers on the human figure and our connection to the environment. For this piece, she contemplated the meaning of mountains for those who journey through them. The initial sketches captured the calm and stillness of resting in the mountains.

Early attempts with bright colors didn’t feel right, leading Lara to cover and repaint the canvas multiple times. The only constant was the human figure, valued deeply for its form. After a long process of uncertainty, she wiped the slate clean and began anew, gradually uncovering old shapes and lines beneath the layers. This revealed not one, but two figures, a reflection of the two people behind the commission.

For them, hiking these mountains is not a solitary act, but a shared experience, a place where they found each other and continue to connect.

	Fall in Amsterdam

2026 - Acrylycs on canvas (1x 120x80)&#38;nbsp;

	De stad lijkt trager, zachter, warmer.

Doelloze gesprekken zonder haast.

Waar moeten ze anders zijn?&#38;nbsp;

	Wave
The commission: femminism, warmth, nature

2024 - Acrylycs on canvas (120x80cm)

The world is changingCan you feel itUndressing itself and slipping into something uncomfortable And more just- WavesRupi Kaur

	The woman is the center, the warmth.She radiates light. At ease.Next to her sits a man, modest.His hand represents action and control, a sense of grip.
In the painting, it is the woman who determines what the hand does.
The dark background with points of light symbolizes the current spirit of the timesa society in which not everyone is equal.
In the foreground, however, there is a brighter and warmer feeling.
A lilac cloud drifts through the scene like a wave.It brings something magical, gentle, hopefula sense of what might be yet to come.
